Final is Set -- IPS/Marathon Taverna vs. FC Swoosh Kell's Print E-mail

2004_cup

The OPSL Open Division Fall 2009 Final is set.  IPS/Marathon Taverna and FC Swoosh Kell's will square off this Friday, 12/11, at 7:30 PM at PCC Rock Creek to determine who will hoist the trophy and hold bragging rights until the spring 2010 season concludes.

No two teams in the thirteen years of OPSL history have met more during the regular season, playoffs, or finals than IPS and Swoosh.  Managers, players, and league administrators have all come and gone, but these two clubs anchor the history and mystique of the OPSL.  Seeing them battle it out one more time for the championship on Friday night will be the culmination of a season that always seemed fated for this classic showdown.

"IPS' record this season attests to what a good team they are.  They have great strikers, great midfielders and their defenders work hard," said Swoosh Manager Jason McMillen.  "I think we will need to have our best game of the season to beat them.  We have already beat them once this season so we know they are not invincible.  I think, in terms of pure talent and skill, this could arguably be the highest quality final the OPSL has produced.  I am excited for the players to get this opportunity because this kind of matchup is what all of us as soccer enthusiasts really look forward to and the players a chance to showcase their abilities."

"We have to bring our best performance if we expect to beat Swoosh, no question," IPS Harvey Hurst said.  "That squad is loaded with experienced players and they know how to win games.  But we are ready."
